Saying Goodbye to Phyllis Bullock, Celebrated CIP Home Host

We are saddened to announce the passing of one of our most dedicated home hosts and supporters, Phyllis Bullock.  Phyllis, along with her late husband Robert and three children Dan, Ruth, and Jane, welcomed 65 international guests from 45 different countries in their home from 1962 through 2003.

Phyllis and Robert originally saw hosting as an opportunity to introduce their children to different cultures.  "We met all the people with varied backgrounds, social workers, doctors, professors, government officials, and nurses," remembers daughter Ruth Manire.  "Some of the guests would come back for repeat visits to our home and allow us to come to their homes in their countries."

Ruth continues: "Our first guest was Guy from Madagascar and further guests from Norway, Denmark, Portugal, Germany, India, and Guyana, and so many more.  It was great to share our country's experiences and for Phyllis to give her love to the guests."

Phyllis passed away on August 14, 2022 at the age of 97.  She will be remembered in a memorial service at Lakewood United Methodist Church on Sunday, April 2, 2023 at 2:00pm.  Following the service, Phyllis' family will receive friends at a reception at the church.  Please click here for Phyllis' obituary and to learn more about her rich, philanthropic life.
