If you have been following our stories over the past few months, you have  seen the impact of our recent Azerbaijani program on both our Northeast Ohio professional network and the delegates themselves as they continue their shared mission to combat human trafficking. We are now pleased to highlight another meaningful dimension of this exchange: the personal connections formed within host homes that created lasting impressions for everyone involved.
For many of our newest host families, this experience began with uncertainty but quickly became something truly memorable. Host families quickly overcame apprehensions over language barriers and discovered that genuine connection does not depend on language alone.
 From music to shared meals, their time together was filled with memorable experiences. Ann and Alistair spent many evenings with Mustagim making music together. Their most treasured memory is, “listening to him sing and play the guitar and piano; making music together and forming our band ‘Mush-Al-Ann’,” a name created by combining each of their names. The group ultimately performed their final show at the program’s farewell celebration before the delegates departed. Their time together also included visits to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and lively dinners with fellow hosts and guests.
Christine’s experience was equally meaningful hosting Fakhriyya and Fatima. “Every morning I came down to good healthy breakfasts already made… so friendly, caring, eager to help,” she shared. What began as hosting quickly evolved into a true cultural exchange, with guests feeling comfortable and welcomed from the start.
For Cynthia Taylor, the experience was just as impactful. “It was a pleasure to host Gunel and Sabina. They are both delightful guests. They taught me about their families, work, and country."
Hosts also gained new perspectives on the program’s theme. "We gained a new understanding of the extent of human trafficking," Ann and Alistair reflect. Cynthia agrees: "They are most impressive in their work initiatives and dedication to help others."
Perhaps most importantly, families emphasized how rewarding and approachable the hosting experience truly is.
“Relax and enjoy it!” Ann and Alistair advise future hosts.
 Christine adds, “Put aside your fears and do it! CIP does an amazing job organizing, matching, planning and keeping in touch. It makes the whole experience that much better.”
For these hosts, the experience not only met expectations but exceeded them. Christine described it as “invaluable… I feel like I’m doing something to promote international peace and communication.” Cynthia agrees: "They brought joy and connection to my home and my family.” Ann, a returning host, summarized it simply: “It’s always been terrific.”
